Jang Dong Yoon Talks About Choosing “Queen Mantis” And What Sets The Drama Apart

Jang Dong Yoon shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “Queen Mantis”! A remake of the French series “La Mante,” “Queen Mantis” is a crime thriller starring Go Hyun Jung as Jung Yi Shin, a famous serial killer nicknamed “The Mantis” who brutally murdered five men 20 years ago and has been imprisoned ever since. When a new serial killer emerges, copying The Mantis’s distinctive style, the police approach Jung Yi Shin for her assistance in solving the case. Jang Dong Yoon plays detective Cha Soo Yeol, who must work alongside his mother Jung Yi Shin, whom he has despised his entire life. Explaining why he chose to star in the drama, Jang Dong Yoon said, “Above all, the biggest reason was that director Byun Young Joo was helming the project. It’s not an easy project, but as a fan of the director, I had absolute trust in her.” When asked about his filming experience, he shared, “Director Byun Young Joo really understands actors. She gives directions more easily and precisely than anyone, and communicates so well. The atmosphere on set was also truly great.” He added, “Especially in scenes that required intensity, she showed powerful and outstanding directing skills. The mise-en-scène of this drama is definitely something to look forward to.” Jang Dong Yoon also emphasized, “‘Queen Mantis’ is a well-made crime thriller that brings together the director’s skill, the writer’s detailed storytelling, and the actors’ performances. Viewers will find it both intense and thrilling at the same time.” “Queen Mantis” premieres on September 5 at 9:50 p.m. KST.

Kim Da Mi And Shin Ye Eun Begin Their Journey Into Adulthood Together In "A Hundred Memories”

JTBC’s upcoming drama “A Hundred Memories” has unveiled its main poster! Set in the 1980s, “A Hundred Memories” is a nostalgic coming-of-age romance drama about the friendship between two young bus attendants, Go Young Rye (Kim Da Mi) and Seo Jong Hee (Shin Ye Eun), and their shared first love Han Jae Pil (Heo Nam Jun). The main poster offers a rare glimpse of Young Rye and Jong Hee beyond their bus attendant uniforms on Route 100, showing them as ordinary girls. Sitting side by side in the back of the bus, they smile brightly out the window, sunlight illuminating their youthful radiance. Though they joined the workforce to support their families—or for other personal reasons—they are, at heart, just beginning to bloom into adulthood. By showing them in casual clothes rather than uniforms, the poster beautifully captures this fleeting moment. The tagline, “Our 100—where we laugh, cry, and love,” hints at the heartfelt story of youth, friendship, and first love to come. Despite their very different personalities and backgrounds when they first met on Bus 100, Young Rye and Jong Hee quickly became inseparable. Young Rye, the responsible eldest daughter, quietly carries her family’s burdens, while Jong Hee hides a tender heart behind her bold exterior. Just as Bus 100 begins its journey, so too does the story of their friendship and love. “A Hundred Memories” will premiere on September 13 at 10:40 p.m. KST.

Joo Jong Hyuk Is The Justice-Driven Youngest Member Of Park Min Young’s Con Artist Trio In “Confidence Queen”

TV CHOSUN’s new drama “Confidence Queen” has unveiled new stills of Joo Jong Hyuk in character! A Korean adaptation of the 2018 Japanese comedy drama “The Confidence Man JP,” “Confidence Queen” follows three con artists with extraordinary talents as they pull off elaborate scams targeting villains from all walks of life. Park Min Young stars as Yoon Yi Rang, a con artist with an IQ of 165 and a genius-level intellect in the top 1 percent. With her eccentric thinking and cold charisma, she leads the team in their intricate schemes. Joo Jong Hyuk plays Myung Gu Ho, the team’s action-oriented youngest member who embodies both justice and charm. His character—affectionately nicknamed the “puppy-like maknae”—is a con artist who has mastered every trick of the trade. The newly released stills highlight Myung Gu Ho’s many sides: in a sleek suit, his signature bright smile and sparkling eyes set the stage for excitement, while another cut shows him exuding effortless charisma as he lounges in first class with slicked-back hair and sunglasses. In softer moments, his argyle knit sweater emphasizes his gentle side, but he’s also seen making fiery expressions during conversations or sulking adorably—showcasing both his playful innocence and stubborn streak. Sharing his thoughts on the role, Joo Jong Hyuk shared, “Gu Ho has to take on a wide range of personas, so just being part of a project like this felt like an honor as an actor. It was also exciting to work alongside Park Min Young and Park Hee Soon as one team.” He continued, “Since I had to portray different disguises each episode, I put a lot of thought into how costumes and makeup could best bring each character to life. For one role, I even learned a Gangwon Province dialect from a teacher who’s a native, in order to convincingly play a countryside boy.” He added, “Every episode introduces new main characters, and the way our team tricks them will be a big highlight. The story unfolds with a lot of fun and wit, so I think viewers will really enjoy it from the very first broadcast.” “Confidence Queen” is set to premiere on September 6 at 9:10 p.m. KST.

Watch: Lee Junho, Kim Min Ha, And More Impress At Script Reading For New Drama "Typhoon Family"

tvN’s upcoming drama “Typhoon Family” has unveiled a glimpse of its first script reading session! “Typhoon Family” follows the journey of CEO Kang Tae Poong (Lee Junho) struggling to protect Typhoon Company, the small business left by his father, as he navigates the trials of the IMF crisis in 1997. The script reading was attended by director Na Jung, writer Jang Hyun, and cast members Lee Junho, Kim Min Ha, Kim Min Seok, Kwon Han Sol, Lee Chang Hoon, Kim Jae Hwa, Kim Song Il, Lee Sang Jin, Kim Ji Young, Kim Sang Ho, Moo Jin Sung, Kim Young Ok, Park Sung Yeon, Kwon Eun Seong, and Sung Dong Il. Lee Junho, who plays Kang Tae Poong—a free-spirited young man who becomes a corporate professional during the IMF crisis—commanded the room with his confident gaze and strong delivery. He expressed shifting emotions with care, sometimes showing Tae Poong’s boldness and at other times his seriousness. Kim Min Ha plays Oh Mi Seon, the eldest daughter who supports her family while pursuing her dream of becoming a corporate professional. At the script reading, she portrayed delicate emotions with precision, and her reproduction of Seoul’s dialect from that era added a vivid sense of realism as if she were truly living in 1997. Kim Min Seok plays Wang Nam Mo, Tae Poong’s close friend and a member of the “Apgujeong Street Boys,” a group of free-spirited youth of the ’90s who ruled Apgujeong. With his signature energy and playful charisma, he captivated the room and hinted at a performance that could extend his presence from Apgujeong to the small screen. The office team of Typhoon Company also stood out. Lee Chang Hoon as Ko Ma Jin, a sales manager; Kim Jae Hwa as Cha Seon Taek, a deputy general manager in administration; Kim Song Il as Koo Myeong Gwan, a director in management; and Lee Sang Jin as Bae Song Jung, an assistant manager in logistics, filled the room with their distinctive characters. Sung Dong Il, who will make a special appearance as Tae Poong’s father Kang Jin Young, portrayed a man who rose from humble beginnings, showing both a father’s gruff love for his son and the weight of an era’s glory and decline. Kim Ji Young, as Tae Poong’s mother Jung Jung Mi, conveyed warmth and realism as a once-glamorous Gangnam housewife who suddenly loses everything but endures with resilience to protect her son. Together, the two actors brought to life the joys and sorrows of the parents’ generation. Actors who play Mi Seon’s and Nam Mo’s families also added energy to the story. Kwon Han Sol portrays Mi Seon’s younger sister Oh Mi Ho, portraying the dual nature of an it girl of the ’90s—tough on the outside yet tender within. Kim Young Ok plays the grandmother Yeom Boon Yi, Kwon Eun Seong portrays the youngest sibling Oh Beom, and Park Sung Yeon is Nam Mo’s mother Eul Nyeo. The arrival of Typhoon Company’s rival father-and-son duo CEO Pyo Bak Ho (Kim Sang Ho) and his son Pyo Hyun Joon (Moo Jin Sung) adds further tension. Check out the full script reading video below! “Typhoon Family” is set to premiere in October.
